Job Description

The School Internet Safety Officer plays a vital role in fostering a secure online environment for students, staff, and educational stakeholders. This position involves the development and implementation of comprehensive internet safety policies and protocols aimed at minimizing risks associated with digital activities within the school community. The School Internet Safety Officer will collaborate closely with educators, administrators, and parents to promote awareness and understanding of internet safety issues, including cyberbullying, data privacy, and responsible digital citizenship. In an era where technology is deeply ingrained in education, this role is essential in ensuring that all users have access to safe and secure digital resources while effectively managing the potential hazards associated with online engagement. This officer will also be responsible for providing training and support to staff and students and will monitor compliance with established internet safety policies. Furthermore, the officer will be tasked with staying updated on emerging internet safety trends and technologies, conducting regular assessments of the school's digital landscape, and reporting on the effectiveness of safety measures. Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement internet safety policies and procedures for the school.

  • Conduct training sessions for staff, students, and parents on internet safety protocols.

  • Monitor the online behaviors of students to identify potential risks such as cyberbullying or exposure to inappropriate content.

  • Collaborate with educators to integrate internet safety education into the curriculum.

  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of internet safety initiatives and policies.

  • Stay informed about current trends and threats in internet safety to proactively address potential issues.

  • Act as a resource for the school community regarding internet safety concerns and best practices.

Skills, Requirements and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of information technology, or a related field.

  • Experience working in a school environment, preferably in a technology or safety role essential.

  • Strong understanding of internet safety issues and best practices for associated policies.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with diverse audiences.

  • Ability to develop training materials and conduct training sessions for varied groups.

  • Analytical skills to assess the effectiveness of implemented safety measures and make data-driven recommendations.

  • Commitment to promoting a safe and secure online environment for students and staff.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students.

  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities.

  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality.

  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Willingness to undergo additional training and development as required.
