Job Description

The Health Care Assistant plays a vital role in the healthcare system, providing essential support to patients and healthcare professionals. As a Healthcare Assistant, you will work closely with a team of nursing staff to ensure that patients receive the highest quality of care. Your primary responsibilities will include assisting with daily living activities, monitoring patients' health, providing emotional support during their recovery and ensure the comfort, dignity and independence of clients. Job Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain patients’ environment and assist patients to perform self-hygiene.

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living as needed.

  • In liaison with housekeeping, ensure that patient rooms/wards are always ready for admissions.

  • Escort patients for admissions to the allocated rooms, perform room orientations, and ensure the patients are comfortable.

  • Perform periodic ward visits to check on patients and escalate care where necessary.

  • Participate in ensuring the patients have taken their meals and drinks.

  • Maintain high standards of infection control practices as per policies.

  • Accompany stable patients for procedures.

  • Demonstrate flexibility and team spirit for effective and efficient operations.

  • Support the patient’s treatment journey through; physician appointment tracking and reminders, ease of access to medicines and discounting, patient education, counselling and psycho-social support and adherence and treatment progress tracking and reporting to physician.

  • Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.

  • Obtain and record patient vital signs, medical history and complaints accurately.

  • Prepare examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, organization, and availability of necessary supplies and equipment.

  • Administer medications and injections under the direction and supervision of licensed healthcare providers.

  • Provide patient education on medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and preventive care measures.

  • Document patient encounters and treatment interventions accurately and promptly in electronic health records (EHR) systems.

Skills, Requirements and Qualifications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and email applications.

  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical office software.

  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assistant training program or certification will be beneficial.

  • Previous experience in a clinical setting or healthcare environment is advantageous.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic patient care procedures.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare team members.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical setting.

  • Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in healthcare practice.

  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Empathy, patience, and compassion when interacting with individuals in need of support.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to meet varying care needs.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Willingness to undergo additional training and development as required.

  • Demonstrate an ability to make and sustain professional therapeutic relationships.

  • Ability to work with people in a group and individual basis

  • Demonstrate an ability and awareness to maintain personal boundaries

  • Able take leadership and direction from qualified staff.

  • To participate in unsupervised tasks and provide accurate feedback to relevant parties
